A valinch, also known as a wine thief, is the oldest tool used by distillers working with barrels. It allows you to effortlessly extract a sample of the spirit from the very heart of the barrel, helping you assess its readiness. How it works: the valinch is inserted into the barrel, the upper opening is sealed with your thumb, creating a vacuum inside the device that prevents the liquid from spilling out. The valinch is then removed from the barrel and its lower end is placed into a glass. Once you lift your thumb from the upper opening, your drink sample is ready in the glass. Compatible with most barrels ranging from 200 to 250 liters.
