Spice Set for Gdańsk Vodka Tatar's Brew (6L)
Composition - Calamus root, Elecampane, German iris, Ginger, Cardamom, Orange peel, Lemon peel, Angelica root, Caraway, Rose buds. Packaging - Kraft bag. Weight - 130 g. Adam Mickiewicz mentions the so-called "Gdańsk vodka" several times in his verses – in "Pan Tadeusz", for example, it is drunk after a bear hunt. It is not a simple vodka, but a tincture based on roots and herbs, produced in ancient times by the Dutch who lived in the free city of Gdańsk. Calamus is popularly known as angel's herb, Tatar's brew, or saber grass – hence the name. Preparation method: Pour the spices from the set into a container and add 3.6 L of 40% alcohol. Let it steep for 10 days in a warm, dark place. Filter and dilute the tincture to 30% strength. Distill the tincture to 45-50% strength in the stream. Dilute the resulting product with water to 40%. To soften the taste, add a tablespoon of sugar (preferably in syrup form). After 2-3 days of resting, the drink will be ready. If using a gin basket, take 10 liters of 30% alcohol. Collect the first 100 g of heads separately. Collect the body up to 50% strength in the stream. Dilute the resulting product to 40% and let it rest for 5-7 days. The estimated quantity of the final drink is approximately 6 L.
