One of the defining characteristics of premium spirits is aging in oak barrels. The wood imparts distinctive tannic notes to the drink, so highly valued by connoisseurs. Another advantage of this aging process is the purification of the distillate from harmful compounds and the achievement of a smoother taste. For those who do not wish to spend large amounts on purchasing, maintaining and replacing barrels, an alternative has been created – oak chips. The wood will give the drink a rich vanilla aroma with a chocolate finish. GUSTO oak chips for infusing come straight from Scotland. They are made from the staves of whisky barrels in which spirits from brands such as Tullibardine, Glenmorangie and Aberfeldy were aged for 12 years. Recommendations: Oak absorbs part of the alcohol, so it is recommended to use a distillate of at least 50-55% ABV so that the final infusion does not drop below 40% ABV.
